Gozzo Alain

Musicians or bands:

Gozzozoo, Atoll, Sacha Distel, Embargo, Billy Cobham, Tony Mac Alpine, Bill Bruford, John Wetton, Steve Vai, Stuart Hamm

Biography and commentary:

After beginning with the saxophone (at 8 years old), Alain Gozzo turns toward the drumset as self-taught and played in public since 14 years old. He founded the band of French progressive rock, "Atoll", which become very popular especially in Japan (ranked 4th European group in Japan in 1974, verifying the saying: no one is a prophet in his own country!). In 1982 he founded the drumset school network for beginners which will become the largest in France: schools sponsored by the Japanese drumset brand, Tama. He participated in the first specialized drumset magazine in France: Batteur Magazine, which will be 20 years in charge of the educational section. He also produced very synthetic and explanatory teaching methods for beginners and Videos (one of the first in France). He is now responsible for Tama France and gives master classes throughout France. While the playing of Alain does not shine by great originality, he managed to assimilate the most advanced techniques of 1970-80 years (which earned him to play improvised duets with the bests, like Billy Cobham) and invest in a passionate work to publicize (popularize) and make recognize (appreciate) an instrument still unjustly ignored and despised in France.
